Casco Bay      Home      Top sailing page

Casco Bay runs about 20 miles North of Portland, and has over a hundred islands.

Sailing around the Bay was good, although much of the run up from Cape Cod was under power, in a flat calm.
The entry to Portland is marked by two old lighthouses, and would be safe in almost any weather.

Portland is too busy to anchor, but just North there are several good anchorages.

At the end of the Michael and Neil week, a  Beluga Whale followed us for several hours, and bumped us in the dinghy after we anchored.  He seemed fascinated by the anchor and chain, playing with it and diving down to the anchor repeatedly.  Hope he does not eat it before we get back on board..
